SMALLER FAMILY IS MORE ADVANTAGEOUS THAN LARGER FAMILY

Every child is entitled to a comfortable life, good education, proper guidance, training and adequate feeding, and a child deprived of these qualities might lack behind among peers. Every parent wants the best of their unborn children. Hence there is a need to make rightful decisions in favor of the unborn children. However, the hard decision of the parent in considering whether growing up in a small family or large family will be suitable for the unborn children. Although, there is no perfect family size as large family and small family have their advantages and disadvantages in various aspects of development, security, finance, peace, growing up and companionship.

Around the world, couples tend to have small family rather than having a large family as it can be witnessed in the decline of birth rates. For instance the Chinese government once adopted a one child policy. The current debate regarding smaller family is more advantageous than larger family. The argument will be based on four main purposes such as growth and development of the children, financial constraint, children’s attention and companionship, family of the mother, peace and harmony in the family.

The argument factor to be considered is the growth and development of individual’s personality. The growth and development is a crucial role play in a small family. For example, children in the smaller family are free to have heart to heart discussion about their problems with parents which enhance good personality for their development while children in larger family may not be able to have heart to heart discussion with their parents due to the population rather they share their problems with peers which may lead to wrong decisions and may influence them badly. However, children in large family might be able to choose from wide range of ideas from their siblings and mostly a direct advice from the elders of the family yet due to the variety of ideas from siblings and elders of the family. However, they may be overwhelmed with  many choices of  rightful decisions so it is essential that children have heart to heart discussion with their parents to have proper guidance and counseling as a form of growth and development.

Another positive advantage of smaller family is the peace and harmony entrenched. The most essential element for a pleasant family is peace and harmony. It is mostly found in smaller families where understanding and settling disputes is very easy. In smaller families, there is rarely misunderstanding and they enjoy good relationship by living together. Unlike, in the larger family, children would be faced with envy, bossy and unwarranted malice due to different reasons such as love for one child than the other which may be stressful on the parent on how to tackle the situation. Undoubtedly, the disputes strengthen the bond in the larger family which enables the siblings to understand each other and gives them the ability to deal with fellow human beings outside their family. In spite of these hostiles, smaller family is used to self-comportment, dignity and personal manner which enable peace and harmony in the society.

A further significance of smaller family is financial stability. The major problem faced in any kind of family is financial constraint such as education, feeding, clothing and shelter.  Financial problem rarely occur in smaller families since they can all be engaged in any economic activity and money can be saved for uncertainty.  They are emotionally secured and desires of the children are given high priority. On the other hand, parents in large family have their hands full; they are faced with different demands which put them on high risk of having a large family budget and incurring unnecessary debts.

Small families also have its disadvantages though not numerous but need to discuss for a balanced debate. Death is inevitable. It can make a family incapable if the breadwinner dies ,there will be no more support for the family which can be devastating unlike a larger family where siblings can come together to support each other which reduces the effect of the loss.

Also, the autonomy kids in a small family have may likely make them develop bad characters like theft and indiscipline since they do not have the opportunity kids from large family possess has they could be controlled and tamed of any bad attitude.

Psychologically, children from small family are affected in cases of broken homes as they tend to have less care and no one in the family bothers to look after them but in large families, they look over each other no matter the circumstance and make sure everyone is at peace.
